To install and configure your dog's GPS:

5. Attach the tracker to the Julius-K9 collar supplied, or to your own collar or harness using the universal attachment.

Yes, the Weenect XT can be used with either a harness or a collar. If ordered without a collar, it attaches easily thanks to its universal mount. If you choose the version with a collar, the tracker comes with an adjustable Julius-K9 collar (37.5 to 56.5 cm).
The Julius-K9 collar version can also later be used on any collar or harness by ordering the universal accessory from our shop.
The Weenect GPS collar requires a subscription because it is fitted with a built-in SIM card that continuously transmits the pet's GPS position via the mobile network. The subscription is essential to guarantee real-time tracking and unlimited range.
There are GPS trackers without a subscription, but they do not offer the same level of accuracy or responsiveness and are therefore unsuitable for tracking animals.
You can modify, replace, or cancel your subscription at any time from your personal account.

The microchip is solely used to officially identify your dog: if they go missing, it helps vets and shelters trace back to the owner — but it doesn't actually locate the animal. The dog GPS collar, on the other hand, lets you find your pet wherever they are, with real-time tracking and no distance limit. There is no equivalent in the form of a GPS chip or implant — the technology and size constraints simply don't allow for it.
Bottom line: the microchip finds the owner, the GPS finds the pet. Together, they offer your companion the best possible protection.
The Weenect XT GPS collar and Apple's AirTag are built for very different purposes.
The AirTag relies on Bluetooth technology, with a maximum range of around 50 metres. Beyond that, it depends on nearby Apple devices to relay its location — and doesn't support real-time tracking. This dependency severely limits its effectiveness for pets, particularly in suburban or rural areas with lower population density. On top of that, it poses a genuine health risk if swallowed by an animal — which is why Apple itself does not recommend using the AirTag for dogs or cats.
